John Malone letter - 1939 Aug 28 - Socialist Workers Party organizing in Evansville, Indiana

John Malone is an otherwise unknown (to me) but competent sounding Socialist Workers Party organizer from Effingham, Illinois. This trip was the result of Henry Schnautz's letters to the party leadership asking for help getting organized. Al Gates was the party man in Chicago. Elda is Henry's good friend Elda Patton. The girl from Purdue is Ellen Suttner. Both neighbors. The Rev. Joseph Moore is the pastor of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in downtown Evansville. The SWP claimed 10,000 members nationally, but actual members may have been much less, and one estimate was that militant workers, like Henry and Malone, only 100.
